A Trip to Evans Army Community HospitalThe Health and Information Technology (HIT) class recently participated in a field trip to Evans Army community hospital. While there they received a briefing on HIPAA and other privacy issues involving healthcare, and an overview presentation on health and information technology. They also visited hospital departments such as Operating Rooms, Telemetry Department, Pain Clinic, and Radiology. In addition to that, they had a first hand look at the Clinical Information Systems such as Electronic Health Records (EHR), HAINS, Armed Forces Health and Logitidinal Technology Application (AHLTA), and Composite Healthcare Systrem (CHCS). It was great to have students get the opportunity to see the real-world applications of what they learned in the classroom.

Reading & Writing AssignmentsAll sectors of our society have been touched by technology. However it can said that no other sector has been more controversial than the healthcare sector. Moral and ethical issues abound and there is no shortage of opinions as to how should we proceed and where will we be years or months from now. Changes and practices in healthcare relate as much to social/cultural norms as do the tools used to advance healthcare and maybe even more so. For these assignments you will read these articles and analyze what the author's idea of where we presently stand in Health and Information Technology. This paper should be formatted with 12' font, include title and names and checked for spelling accuracy before turning in.
